Police appeal to public for video footage following disorder: Birmingham
Detectives from the Major Investigation Unit of West Midlands Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down those responsible for the disorder that took place in Birmingham on Saturday.
They are asking for anyone who took pictures or video footage to come forward and help their enquiries.
The Major Investigation Unit are leading the investigation into sporadic outbreaks of disorder which took place after protests in the city centre on Saturday afternoon.
Their investigations commenced with the studying of CCTV from council camera’s, city centre shops and evidence gathering teams who were at both protests.
Officers are also examining closely videos which have been posted on line by those involved in the disorder.
Over 40 detectives and specially trained expert viewers are working on the investigation.
DCI Tim Bacon:
“The investigation has started in earnest and we are asking for those who were about on Saturday afternoon to see if they can help us.
“If you recorded what was going on then we need to see that footage.
“Our aim is to bring those people who used Saturday afternoon’s protests as an opportunity to commit crime and disorder to justice as soon as possible and you could help that process.
“I would also say to those who were committing the disorder there are cameras across Birmingham City Centre and we are starting a process of identification.
“Now would be a good time to consider handing yourself in before we start releasing pictures of those who we want to trace.”
Anyone with footage can contact the incident room on 0845 113 5000 or email the footage directly click here>>.
