Three people have been arrested after a loaded firearm, disguised as a pen was recovered in Rusholme.

At 1.35am today, Tuesday 4 August 2009, police stopped a man acting suspiciously on Wilmslow Road, Rusholme.

The man was found to be in possession of a pen, which was examined and found to be a firearm containing bullets.

The 40-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, along with another man, aged 33 and a woman, aged 50.

They are currently in police custody.

Detective Constable Robert Cousen from Longsight CID said:

“It is very concerning to see the lengths people are willing to go to in order to carry a lethal weapon like a gun and I am pleased that we have ensured that this firearm will not fall into the wrong hands.

“Greater Manchester Police is committed to removing dangerous weapons and the people who supply and carry them from the streets, and we will continue our aim to make Greater Manchester safer.”
